Genre Reading Challenge

**Please note, the Genre Challenge program is paused June through August, and kids are encouraged to participate in our Summer Reading Program

What is a genre? A genre is a collection of artistic works that have similarities in how they tell stories. Genres included in the challenge are:

  • Mystery
  • Historical Fiction
  • Adventure Fiction
  • Graphic Novel
  • Biography
  • Science Fiction
  • Fantasy
  • Realistic Fiction

What is the Genre Challenge? Read one book per genre and record your thoughts on the sheet. Finish the eleven books in total and receive a canvas tote bag, a small prize and have a book in the library collection dedicated to you!

Who can participate? Readers in grades 3 through 8.

Why participate? It's a fun way to try new books that you may not have normally read.

How do I begin the genre challenge? Visit the library children's section to pick up a simple paper tracker to log your titles by reading genre. Or, you can download the PDF and print at home.
